How is it already the last Wednesday of April?!
It's Springtime here in the Ozarks. This means we have the most beautiful flowers and the trees are beginning to regain their luscious green leaves. Well, while I am typing this, we are currently under three different types of storm warnings and it's pouring so hard outside I can barely see the apartment across the narrow street. But, that's spring. "April showers bring May flowers" or whatever.
When I think of Spring, I think of the Bible verse, 2 Corinthians 5:17. It says, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here!" (2 Corinthians 5:17, NIV). You see, in the Fall, the trees turn brown and die away. Everything looks dead and ugly. Then Spring comes and everything is new and reborn!
We people are like that too. Reborn after the ugly times. Have you ever gone outside during or right after a storm? It's beautiful! The smell of rain, the green pops with the fresh drink it just received. In life, we have storms. They can be light rainstorms or they can be massive thunderstorms with a chance of hail or a tornado. Regardless of what the storm looks like, we all have them and after the storm passes, beauty is left behind. Maybe you're in the middle of a storm in your life. Don't let it bog you down because there is beauty at the end of it. A rainbow if you will. The end, the beauty is coming!
During the sermon this past Sunday, my preacher used the analogy of Michelangelo creating David. (Shockingly, this is the first time I am using an art reference on this blog) I don't know if you have ever seen David, (I will leave a picture below for you) but it's big, it's beautiful, and it wasn't made by adding things to it. See, when Michelangelo created David, he didn't get clay or stone and mash it together. No, the process to make David was one to take away. Michelangelo took a chunk of marble and chipped away at it until he had David. He chipped away all the pieces of the marble that wasn't David until he had it perfect! God is doing the same thing with you! He is chipping you away until you are perfect!
*Fun Fact* The marble that was used to make David was REJECTED by not one but TWO other sculptors! 15 Things You Didn't Know about David -- So if you're feeling rejected, remember that God is still working on you!
Have you ever thought about the fact that we are blessed with the beauty of nature? Natural beauty. No, I don't mean people, I literally mean nature. It's so beautiful! God gave us this beautiful nature. He is quite the artist I might add. My favorite thing to look at is sunsets. I often think, "God is an amazing artist. He painted that for me to see."And I appreciate the moment I get to take to look at that beautiful masterpiece God has painted in the Western sky. Not only sunsets but all nature. Handcrafted with you in mind. Take time to notices God's masterpieces.
We, humans, are like nature. We go through storms. We are pounded and chipped away until we are perfect. We are beautiful. God is working on you! The old is gone, the new has come!
